Last night’s wine: Pelee Island Gewurztraminer 2008

gewSince I really enjoyed the Pelee Island Merlot, I was excited to try their Gewurztraminer which I picked up from ANBL for about $14.  I served it ice cold with my dinner and found it sweet but still very enjoyable.  The fruit flavours are subtle and I think it would pair much better with cheeses or dessert.  I do have one complaint, it was very hard to open.  This was a 2008 wine, yet the cork seemed very soft and the top layer crumbled as I worked the corkscrew.  It took some major effort, especially since the bottle was cold and wet to get it to budge and when I finally got the cork out, it ended up longer than my thumb!
